Shanghai Museum is a large museum collecting numerous Chinese ancient cultural relics, rare and treasured antiques as well as a large sum of other collections from different dynasties. Currently, there are more than 120,000 pieces of ancient articles in museum; particularly it is mainly famous for its collection of bronze-wares, porcelains, calligraphic works as well as paintings. Shanghai Museum was built in 1952, and in 1992 formally moved to the People’s Square of Shanghai.

The area for exhibition is 2800 square meters, and the display halls are divided into The Display of Chinese Bronze Wares, The Display of Chinese Porcelain, The Display of Chinese Painting and The Display of Chinese Carving. The famous exhibitions include: Treasured Bronze-Ware Exhibition of Shanghai Museum, Exhibition of Chinese 6000-Year Arts, Treasured Porcelain Exhibition of Shanghai Museum, Calligraphy Exhibition of Ming and Qing Dynasties, Works Exhibition of Yangzhou Eight Eccentrics as well as Sholars’ Study Exhibition of Late Ming Dynasty.

 

Shanghai Museum is located in the south side of People’s Square. It is as equally famous as Beijing Palace Museum, Nanjing Museum and Shaanxi History Museum. Among its articles, the most famous articles are the calligraphic work named Yatouwan created by Wang Xianzhi who was the son of Wang Xizhi, the Saint of Calligraphy, Kuxun Tiejuan created by Huai Su who was a monk of Tang Dynasty famous for its cursive hand calligraphy, Su Shi’s calligraphic works, Huang Tingjian’s calligraphic works, Mi Fu’s painting and calligraphy, Emperor Song Huizhong’s painting and so on.
