National Museum of China
National Museum of China located on east side of Tian’anmen Square is built based on original History Museum of China and Revolution Museum of China. National Museum of China is a national-level comprehensive museum mainly collected the articles of history and culture and systematically exhibits the long history and culture of China. In 2003, it was formally opened. Currently, it covers building area of 6, 5000 square meters.
Original History Museum of China was the first state-owned museum in China, and its former name was Preparatory Center of National History Museum formed in 1912. The number of collections in museum is more than 400, 000 including the unearthed cultural relics, inherited historical relics, ancient coins and paper money, cultural relics of ethnic groups, printed or copied historical and cultural documents and so on. From the relics of Yuanmou primitive man lived in China 1,700,000 years ago to historical and cultural relics of last feudalistic dynasty (Qing Dynasty), there are more than 9000 related collections openly exhibited all the year.
In former China National Revolution Museum, there are more than 120, 000 cultural and historical relics collected, among them, the first-level collections are 2,224 mainly themed with Chinese modern revolutionary documents from 1840 to 1950. Additionally, it also reserves many oil paintings, Chinese traditional paintings, charcoal drawings, sculptures and other art works, most of which are the treasured artistic representatives at present.
To most first time travelers, National Museum of China is the ideal destination for the sake of learning China macroscopically. Meanwhile, it is also the important platform to show Chinese great achievement in history and culture.
Traffic Tip: Take bus NO.1, NO.4, NO.10, NO.20, NO.37, NO.52, NO.120, NO.728, NO.802 or subway and get off at Tiananmen Station.
