This is a traditional Chinese painting themed with early spring landscape, and it was created by Guo Xi who was the palace painter of North Song Dynasty in 1072. This painting is his representative and shows his great achievement in painting. The painting is mainly featured by its unique shapes of mountainous stones which look like the floating or flying cloud and mist as well as the strange trunks and branches of trees which look like the crabs. There are also the figures such as fisherman, village women and naughty children who are working at waterside, and also there is a boat on river. This is a time that the snow begun to melt and the woods begun to pullulate. This image shows the mysterious oriental philosophy about life and time as well as the commoners’ daily life value.

This Chinese traditional painting is 2.63 meters long and 1.33 meters wide, and it was the representative of Fan Kuan, the famous painter of North Song Dynasty, one thousand years ago. It was highly commented by painters of different generations and considered as the classical masterpiece of Chinese traditional painting themed with landscape of mountains and waters. The high mountains and the waterfalls among mountains and valleys simply structure the basic layout of the whole painting, but they are impressive. Xu Beihong, a modern great painter surprised too much when he saw this painting in Beijing Palace Museum and highly commented it is magnificent and top outstanding masterpiece deserving the total value of millions of paintings created by other people. And there is also the valuable inscription of Dong Qichang who was the leader of scholars in Ming Dynasty; in the past hundreds of years, this inscription was the major evidence to judge it is false or not.
